#4 Valentina Tereshkova, First Female To Fly Into Space
Interestingly this Russian Cosmonaut and Engineer left regular school at an early age to study via correspondence courses. She was interested in parachuting from an early age and then started skydiving. Tereshkova joined the female cosmonaut corps. Part of her training included rocket science, spacecraft engineering and pilot training. On June 16, 1963 Tereshkova joined the rest of the Vostok 6 team and launched into space.
