Martin Scorcese is one of the best directors in Hollywood and puts out highly acclaimed movies that have a manly man element to them. With his film, Taxi Driver in 1976 and Raging Bull in 1980, Scorcese quickly became known as the director to have. Goodfellas in 1990 solidified him as a top director.
2.Alfred Hitchcock
Alfred Hitchcock is one of the most well known directors of thrillers. Gaining fame for films such as Rear Window in 1954, Vertigo in 1958, and North by Northwest in 1959, he gained critical acclaim for his film Psycho in 1960, scaring audiences all over the country without ever showing any gore.
3.Francis Ford Coppola
Francis Ford Coppola has made what is considered by many to be the four greatest movies of all time. Known for The Godfather, which premiered in 1972, he went on to direct The Godfather II, The Conversation, And Apocalypse Now, all in the 70's, with the Cotton Club coming out in 1984.
4.Steven Spielberg
When the film, E. T. the Extra Terrestrial, hit the big screen in 1982, Steven Spielberg became just as well known as the cute little alien that made a young, Drew Barrymore scream. Already having had success with, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind in 1977, Spielberg went on to more award winning movies.
5.Orson Welles
Orson Wells set the standard for being a great director. With films such as Citizen Kane in 1941, he put himself on the map, followed by The Magnificent Ambersons in 1942, Touch of Evil in 1958, The Trial in 1962, and Chimes at Midnight in 1965. A visionary director that will never be forgotten.
6.Quentin Tarantino
Another unique director that captivates audiences with his films. Breaking all the rules, Tarantino captured us with his film, Reservoir Dogs and helped John Travolta make a comeback in his film, Pulp Fiction in 1994. The Kill Bill's solidified his place in Hollywood and he continued to enthrall us with, Inglourious Basterds.

Woody Allen movies are far out and the characters he plays are just as out there, but we've all come to know what to expect when we go see a film directed by him. Who doesn't love the film Annie Hall, which premiered in 1977 and The Purple Rose of Cairo in 1985?
