1.Costa Crociere
Costa Crociere is an Italian cruise line that is controlled by Carnival Corporation. The company is based in Italy and was originally had only cargo ships. Today, with fourteen passenger cruise ships, they sail in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Indian Ocean, Middle East, South America, Northern Europe and South East Asia. Despite the unfortunate sinking of the Costa Concordia, they are still considered one of the best cruise lines in the world.
2.Star Cruises
The third largest cruise line in the world, Star Cruises rules Asia-Pacific cruising. They are credited with being responsible for the whole cruise line industry in that region, and they cater to Asian passengers along with Americans, Australians and Europeans. With six luxury liners, Star Cruises remains a force to be reckoned with.
3.Windstar Cruises
Known for its computer controlled ships, Windstar was bought by Holland America, half in 1987 and the other half in 1988. They are now both owned by Carnival Corporation. Windstar ships get a four out of five star rating, with their ships being small and more intimate, carrying between 150 to 300 passengers.
4.Carnival Cruise Lines
Carnival Cruise Lines is one of the most popular cruise lines in the ocean, especially for the twenty-something crowd. Based in Florida, Carnival was the first cruise line to offer shorter and less expensive cruises with lots of on board activities, appealing to those who had never thought to take a cruise.
5.Holland America Line
Holland America Line is based in Seattle, Washington and owned by Carnival. The line used to include a Dutch shipping line and a cargo line. Today, the company has 15 ships taking over 750,000 passengers to seven continents worldwide. Exotic locations, fine dining and open ocean makes for an amazing vacation.
6.Princess Cruises
Based in Santa Clarita, California, Princess Cruises is now owned by Carnival Corporation. If you've ever watched the 70's television show, "The Love Boat," the Pacific Princess ship was featured. With Royal Class, Grand Class, Coral Class, Sun Class and R Class, there are many ships to choose from.
7.Celebrity Cruises
Celebrity Cruises is a Greece based cruise line that merged with Royal Caribbean in 1997. If you've ever noticed the giant "X" on the funnel of their ships, it's the Greek letter chi, which stands for their original owners, the Chandris Group. With it's base in Miami, Florida, they have a variety of ports of call to choose from.

8.Norwegian Cruise Line
Norwegian Cruise Line is baed out of Florida and is unique with its Freestyle Cruising. Most cruise ships have set seating times for meals, some requiring formal attire, while Norwegian doesn't require any of that. With over seven classes of ships, there are many options available.
9.Disney Cruise Line
Disney Cruise Line has four ships and its own private island in the Bahamas, called Castaway Cay, which is the base for the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. The Disney Magic is based in Texas, Florida and Spain, while the Disney Wonder is based in Vancouver and Florida with destinations that include the Panama Canal, Caribbean, Pacific Coast, Bahamas, Europe and Alaska, as well as Transatlantic destinations.

10.Crystal Cruises
Crystal Cruises is a cruise line from Japan, with two high end ships that carry one thousand guests each. Voted the Best Large Ship Cruise Line by readers of /Conde Nast Traveler, it received that title for sixteen years. With Vegas' Caesar's Palace at Sea, the Crystal Harmony is a favorite for some casino fun.
11.Oceania Cruises
Also based in Miami, Florida is Oceania Cruises. They have four luxury ships and are the world's largest upscale cruise line in the world. The all inclusive vacation includes amazing food, nightclubs, bars, games on deck, great accommodations and exciting ports of call to explore, before jumping back on the ship for another night at sea.
12.Royal Caribbean International
Royal Caribbean International is one of the most popular cruise lines out there. Based in Miami, Florida, they have 43 ships, with all of the ships built from 1991 on, being named with their ending being "of the Seas."
