1.Saints Row
With drug use and an alien anal probe weapon, Saints Row has made the list of one of the most controversial video games. These elements were eventually removed to give the game a MA 15+ rating but the game is still considered too violent and over the top in terms of pushing the limits.
2.Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number
With lots of violence, players kill agents of the local mafia. The game involves the rape of a female antagonist, in what is supposed to be a staged movie scene, but the game received criticism due to the scene being too realistic and for going too far for most people.
3.Call Of Duty
In 2009 Call of Duty set players into the near future where they fight in Afghanistan and join forces with terrorists. Players are given choices to kill innocent civilians. What made it worse was the release coinciding with the Fort Hood, Texas shootings that killed thirteen people. Japan and German altered the game so that the game ended if civilians were killed.
4.Mad World
The 2009 release of Mad World sparked a lot of controversy for being released for play on Ninetendo's Wii. It was Nintendo that wanted the game to break out from Wii just being a family friendly console. The violent game had contestants on a game show killing people for points, in a cartoon world.
5.Silent Hill
One of the first gory, survival shooter games, Silent Hill hit the shelves in 1999. Looking more like a horror movie than a video game, crucified bodies and disembodiment were the norm. Originally, the killer was a monster called "The Grey Child," was only released in Europe, but was taken out for the North American release.
6.Doom
The first game to popularize first person shooters, where players could see what it was like to be shooting and killing. With lots of blood and gore, it was the subject of much controversy after the 1999 Columbine High School killings revealed that the shooters were avid players of the game.
7.Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat made history in 1992 for it's violence and gore. Ripping out hearts and other organs, as well as severing heads, this game, along with some others, prompted Congressional hearings that spawned the Entertainment Software Rating Board. It's gore took the game to number one, in spite of the controversy.

8.death Race
An older game, that came out in 1976, could have been foreshadowing for the storm of violent games to come in future decades. death Race didn't have all the bells and whistles that video games have today, but was a black and white pixelated game where players killed gremlins with their cars.
9.Bulletstorm
A recently released game that came out in 2011 to much criticsm, Bulletstorm when a cable news network called it the worst video game in the world before it was even released. A psychiatrist was quoted as saying that "the damage could be significant," if a child played this game.

10.Bioshock 2
Released in 2007, Bioshock started out in trouble with the gaming critics. The most troubling aspect to the game is that players can kill little girls in the game for rewards within the game. The players are given the choice to kill the little girls turned monsters, or save them.
11.Postal 2
In Postal 2, players go on a rampage shooting everything in their wake. Playing as The Postal Dude, they abuse and kill cats, kill people who stand in line at the bank, pee on corpses of their victims and a lot more horrendous acts. This game was used in a court ruling in California as an example of why a law against these types of violent games are needed.

12.Grand Theft Auto
The poster child for violent video games, Grand Theft Auto lets players become criminals and do anything they want, which included killing police officers, pr0stitutes and others. Acts such as stealing cars, which is what the game started out as, has been blamed for real life criminal acts of violence.
