1.New Haven, Conn
This is maybe going to surprise a few people, but this city is indeed one of the most dangerous in the entire United States. Its robbery statistics make it the eighth highest in the country and even though its murder count is lower, there is still a problem with assaults in the city.
2.Buffalo
Buffalo is moving in the right direction because its crime rate has been dropping on a regular basis and that is certainly a good sign. However, it is still at 1,238 for every 100,000 people and obviously that is still far too high, but there is still quite a lot of poverty, so it is tough to get it lower.
3.Cleveland
This city is facing real economic decline and that has brought a lot of problems to it. The violent crime rate has remained quite static over the last couple of years as it sits at 1,363 per 100,000 people, however, they did see their murder rate drop by almost 30% and that is quite impressive in a city with this many problems.
4.Stockton
This city has no money and that is why the crime rating is 1,408 for every 100,000 people. In order to save money it has actually cut back on the amount of police that work there, so expect this figure to rise in a city that is on the road to destruction.
5.Baltimore
Baltimore is actually doing quite well since its violent crime rating fell by 5% in the last year. However, it is still at 1,417 per 100,000 people. There is a lot of poverty in the city and you do have to once again look towards that for being the reason for such a high crime rate.
6.Atlanta
Atlanta has a violent crime rating that is 1,433 for every 100,000 people and there are a number of violent assaults and robberies each year. This is often attributed to it playing a key role in the drug trade with this leading to a number of problems that often leads to crime.
7.Birmingham, Al
This city has a violent crime rating of 1,483 for every 100,000 people and this is certainly going to be a bit of a surprise for those people that believe Alabama is actually quite laid back. The reason is that it has a vibrant drug scene and there is a lot of poverty and when you have poverty you do tend to have crime.

9.St. Louis, MO
St Louis had over 1100 serious assaults in 2012 and this was enough to be the fourth highest city when it comes to this statistic. 11.Detroit, Michigan
