1.Mellon

This family has been involved in a number of different industries including Gulf Oil and even their own bank. They have not been without their controversies, but at the same time they do have a lot of money, so they are not going to be too concerned about a few bits of negative press.

2.Dorrance

This family can trace their wealth back to John T Dorrance and can thank our love of canned soup for their money. His idea eventually led to Campbell soups, so they are now worth billions of Dollars today.

3.Ziff

This family consists of three brothers who are all involved in hedge funds, real estate, commodities, and equities. They are apparently worth a total of $12.6 billion, but due to various clever investments it is widely anticipated that their fortune will only continue to grow.

4.Hearst

This family apparently has a combined wealth of $10 billion thanks to their family business that is involved in the likes of newspapers, TV, radio stations, and just the media in general. They have a major stake in ESPN and it is believed that this contributes to more than half of their family wealth all on its own.

5.Du Pont

This family has a reported fortune of $15 billion, but in all honesty nobody is quite sure as to how much cash they do actually have. They have made their fortune due to an ancestor creating materials such as nylon and Teflon, so you can see how you do not have to do too much, but can be insanely wealthy.

6.Pritzker

This family has a number of different business interests including Hyatt Hotels and a number of industrial based businesses. They are worth an estimated $20 billion, so they are not exactly going to be struggling for cash.

7.Johnson

This Johnson family are the people behind the pharmaceutical company called Johnson & Johnson, so you can imagine how much money they are actually worth. They have passed this business down through the generations and ultimately you can see them carrying on for decades to come due to the sheer size of their business and the popularity of their products.

8.Cox

This family company is involved in the world of communications including the likes of television, radio, and other forms of media. They are worth billions and have been in the industry for decades and they are one of the major players in this particular market.

9.Mars

Well we all know what this family is responsible for because they have had a major say in the candy industry for decades. This family are worth billions and of course that wealth is only going to keep growing thanks to our love of chocolate.

10.Cargill

This family owns the company with the same name and they are involved in agricultural commodities, energy, health & pharmaceutical, and even financial matters. Nobody actually knows how much the family is worth because they are a private company, but you know that it is going to be a lot of money.

11.Koch

The Koch family own the second biggest private company in the US, as they own Koch Industries. They are involved in fertilizers, natural gas, chemicals, energy, commodities, petroleum, and a whole host of other industry related products, so it is no surprise that their revenues are estimated at $100 billion a year.

12.Walton

OK at first you may never have heard of the last name Walton, but you have undoubtedly heard of their business. This is the family behind Walmart, the biggest retailer in the world and you can imagine the number of billions of Dollars that this family is actually worth.
