Bitis Arietans is a venomous viper species that originates in Africa. This snake, which is also known as an African puff adder, is responsible for causing the most snakebite mortalities in Africa. These fatalities are due to this Bitis Arietans' widespread distribution throughout the continent. This species is found in most of sub-Saharan Africa south to the Cape of Good Hope.
