This volcano is in the Democratic Republic of Congo and it has basically been erupting in some way since 1882. It has a huge crater as you can see here and it is expected to erupt in spectacular style at any given moment.

2.Santa Maria

This volcano is in Guatemala and it is widely regarded as being one of the most active volcanoes in the entire world as it has erupted on numerous occasions within the last 100 years. Its last big one was only in 2011, but they are already expecting another big one to happen.

Situated in the middle of Ecuador, this volcano has been constantly erupting since 1934. However, it is estimated that it has been around for more than 500,000 years and it is a reasonable thing to assume that it has been active in some way for most of those years.

This volcano on the Pacific Island of Vanuatu is one that is both loved and feared by the locals. It has been erupting on a constant basis for almost 800 years, and if that does not constitute an active volcano, then what does?

This is a volcano in Japan and it is certainly a volcano that people in Japan are worried about. It is part of a chain of them in the country, but this one loves to throw out some smoke and gas just as it has done so for millions of years.

6.Ol Doinyo Lengai

This active volcano can be found in Tanzania and it does erupt in quite spectacular fashion every couple of years. However, there is always some underlying movement going on, so scientists are unable to predict when it will strike next apart from saying that it really could be at any moment.

7.Erta Ale

This volcano is in Ethiopia and it is always active in some way. It is also very low lying and relatively flat with a large open crater that certainly knows how to spew out smoke and lava. However, it is in a remote part of the country, so people are not really in any danger.

This volcano is in Indonesia and due to the sheer size it is one that should certainly be feared. Indonesia itself has 130 different volcanoes, so the fact that this is the most active one shows you who it is seen as being extremely dangerous.

This volcano is off the coast of Sicily and it always appears to be competing with Mt Etna as the most active volcano in the area. In actual fact, this volcano is constantly having small eruptions, so you can say that it is always active even if it is not spewing out lava all of the time.

10.Piton de la Fournaise - Le Reunion Island

This volcano may look relaxed a lot of the time, but it has numerous small eruptions going on throughout the year. The big fear is that it could erupt in a huge way and that alone will change the island of Reunion and everything that lives there.

11.Etna - Italy

This has to be one of the most well known volcanoes in the world and it dominates the eastern side of the island of Sicily. This volcano is pretty much constantly in a state of eruption either through lava or smoke and gas, which is why it is observed so closely by scientists.

12.Kilauea - Hawaii

Hawaii has five volcanoes and this is the most active out of those five. It has been erupting in some way non-stop since 1983 and 90% of the lava field is less than 1000 years old, which shows how active it has actually been.
