He could have simply said 'baby horses'.  We think the couple might have had a good laugh about it. Sometimes we tend to forget things. We even forget some words, and cannot recall them when we desperately need them. This can be embarrassing at times, but not as embarrassing as talking to a person whom we know but forgotten their name!
