Those dogs are just big enough to jump on kitchen top or dining table to steal food. Dogs love food, and they do everything they could to grab a piece of their favorite grub, be it rotisserie chicken or some other! This habit of them has nothing to do with obedience. To prevent this from happening, you need to train your dog right when it's just a pup. If your dog is an adult, just make sure you don't keep food in easily accessible places.
