Have you ever seen a smiling cat, dog, or a goat in real life? You are less likely to see one. That's because animals don't smile like humans, but we still believe they are smiling because these photos are taken in a way that animals appear smiling, irrespective of their state of mind. We have a tendency to identify human expressions in a lot of things from a simple emoticon :) to a complex animal face. The phenomenon is called an anthropomorphic fallacy. The goat in the picture is very adorable, though.
