Chances are, you've probably mistaken Jupiter for a star. Though the planet is 483, 800,000 miles from the sun, the planet can be seen from Earth without using a telescope. Because of its enormous size, Jupiter is usually the fourth brightest object in the Solar System, after Venus and the moon.
