#5 Elizabeth Blackwell First Female Doctor
Elizabeth born in Bristol, England moved at the age of 8 years old to the USA. The family stricken by poverty found various methods of making money and making ends meet. Elizabeth and her sister started a school for young Ladies interested in learning French. It was merely a means to an end. Later on in life one of Elizabeth's friends became very ill and this inspired her into becoming a doctor. She was not interested in medicine nor did she even enjoy looking at medical books as she found them repulsive! Elizabeth was the only female in her class and graduated in 1849 as the first female Doctor. Her sister Emily was the third woman to get a medical degree.
