Rape is a horrible crime. Many countries are striving to regulate it. Although the United States is one the most educated countries in the world, the nation still witnesses approximately 200,000 rapes or sexual assaults a year. The problem is worse in the African countries. According to South African police, a woman is raped every 36 seconds. Many people think that rape is a sexual assault carried out by a stranger. This assumption is, in fact, incorrect. Crime statistics show that the majority of the rape victims were abused by someone they already knew. Unfortunately, some of our celebrities are rape survivors too. Read the stories of the 12 celebrities (male and female) who were sexually assaulted during their younger years.
1.Fiona Apple
Fiona was raped when she was 12 years old and one of the scariest parts is that it happened outside her family home. She must have still felt extremely safe where she was until a guy decided to change all of that by attacking her and raping her.
2.Pamela Anderson
Pamela Anderson actually lost her virginity due to being raped and that in itself is very, very sad. She is certainly quite a fragile person, so to be able to overcome it and then actually speak out about it in order to help others shows that she is a lot stronger than most of us probably realize.
3.Kelly McGillis
Kelly McGillis is a top 80s actress who was noted for playing lead roles in the movies like Witness (1985) and Top Gun (1986). She was one of the most beautiful actresses of the yesteryear. In 1982, two teenagers broke into her apartment with knives and raped her. One of the two boys was just 15 years old. Kelly couldn't get over the rape incident for a very long time. She said she used to drink every night to forget the assault, and became an alcoholic in the process. The incident made her gradually move away from Hollywood.
4.Ashley Judd
The first that we really heard about her having been raped was when she mentioned it in her memoirs. She discusses it in a frank and quite open manner and indeed other women who have been raped can often take some comfort from reading about other people and their experiences as well as how they then coped with it all.
5.Gabrielle Union
She was only 19 at the time and working at a shoe store when she was raped. However, she may have suffered at the time, but has since managed to move on and work on her career and being able to enjoy life as much as possible.
6.Tori Amos
The talented American singer and songwriter, Tori Amos, is a rape survivor too. In 1984, while Tori Amos was performing at a bar, one of the sponsors of the show offered her a ride back to her home in his car. She obliged. He kidnapped her, took her to an isolated place, and raped her at knifepoint. Tori Amos describes the unfortunate incident as physically torturing and psychologically mutilating. She says the rape incident still haunts her. Tori released a song "Me and a Gun" in 1991, which was written based on the sexual assault. It was her first single from her debut album, Little Earthquakes.
7.Rufus Wainwright
Rufus was actually attacked, robbed, and then raped when he was just 14 years old and was in Hyde Park. He was actually in fear of his life, so ended up pretending he was having a seizure in order to get them to stop, which was a trick that did indeed work.

Queen Latifah has admitted that her babysitter sexually assaulted her and then raped her as a child. Imagine what her parents would have felt like that their child had been put into that position by somebody that they actually trusted.
9.Tim Roth
Tim Roth was raped by a family member when he was a kid and back in England. It must be a tough thing for somebody in the public eye to admit to, but he has never allowed it to destroy him and he has continued to build a strong career.

Rita Hayworth was raped repeatedly by her own father as a child and this abuse lasted for a number of years as they went around the country. She did not click that something was wrong until she was older and discovered what a father/daughter relationship should really be like.

She was raped when she was just five years old by her uncle. That is a horrific tale of abuse, but she got the last laugh when she stood up in court and testified against him leading to him being sent to jail for a total of 14 years.

Oprah Winfrey had admitted to being raped by another relative when she was only nine years old. There is not that much else known about it other than it happened, but she has shown great strength in admitting it in the first place. Had she let that incident ruined her, Oprah may not have amassed a 3.2 billion USD net worth and the huge fan following she has now.
