Chanel No. 5 has become one of those perfumes that everyone knows as a high end perfume that is the epitome of having made it. At $121.71 per ounce, it is the most popular perfume in the world, and after being around for almost 100 years, it hasn't lost it's momentum.

2.Shalini - $409.90 per ounce

Made up of Vanilla, Musk, tuberose, and sandalwood aroma, Shalini Perfume has a sweet yet musky scent with wood tones mixed in. A pricey perfume that is considered out of reach for some, but at the lower end for those spending up to $12,000 per ounce.

3.Annick Goutal Eau d'Hadrien - $441.18 per ounce

A unisex perfume, Annick Goutal Eau d'Hadrien made it into the Fragrance Fountation's Hall of Fame in 2008. The citrus scented fragrance was released in 1981 and over thirty years later is still a favorite, selling for $441.18 per ounce. Not the most pricey but not affordable for the average joe.

A jeweler named Joel A. Rosenthal created JAR Bolt of Lightening Perfume, getting his inspiration by the smell of the air immediately after lightening strikes. Bet you didn't know that lightening produced a scent when it made contact here on earth, but apparently it smells good enough to want to wear it.

5.Jean Patou Joy Perfume - $800 per ounce

Released in 1936, Jean Patou Joy Perfume was named the Scent Of The Century sixty four years later when in 2000 the Fragrance Foundation gave them that coveted title. In order to produce one ounce of this $800 per ounce perfume, 10,000 jasmine flowers and 336 roes are used.

Only available at Harrods retail outlet, Ralph Lauren Perfume Notorious is old Hollywood glamour at its best. Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock films , such as his film "Notorious," as well as actress Ingrid Bergman who starred in it. It was also inspired by Faye Dunaway in the film, The Thomas Crown Affair.

A limited edition perfume by Maurice Roucel, this perfume sells for $1,500 per ounce. With only 1000 of the St. Louis square crystal bottles in existence, they are a rarity that, if you could afford to pay the price, is a collector's item. Chanel has become synonymous with high end, masterful and elegant perfume in the industry, and one that all others aspire to be.

11.Baccarat Les Larmes Sacrees de Thebes - $6,800 per ounce

The crystal bottle with white gold embellishments is one of the reasons this perfume cost is as high as it is. The other reason, is the quality of the perfume itself, and of course, it's delicious scent. Inspired by Egypt and King Tut's tomb, this perfume was released in 1998.


12.Caron Clive Christian No. 1 Imperial Majesty Perfume - $12,951 per ounce

You must really want to smell good if you are willing to spend $12,951 per ounce. There are people whose car costs that much. The most expensive perfume in the world and ever to be made, there are only ten bottles in existence. The bottle itself, crafted by Baccarat, features a five carat white diamond and a Baccarat crystal and an 18 carat solid gold collar.
