Kids can always tell when someone is lurking in the shadows, but when their attention is on something else, all bets are off. If a child dreams about having something creep up and grab them from behind, it have a lasting impact on their childhood memories. If they're watching Elmo in the dream, when they wake up in the morning they could exhibit signs of resent for the character.
