1.Baby carrier
This is another product where it is no surprise that it was a woman that invented it and the baby carrier was the responsibility of Ann Moore. She came up with the idea in the 60's after working as a nurse in West Africa and seeing the locals. She took them carrying their children as her inspiration and the product was born.
2.Solar heating
If you are interested in helping the environment, then surely having solar heating is something you have considered? This system was actually invented by Dr Marie Telkes in 1925 and it is pretty amazing to think that at least the basic idea has been around for so long.
3.Gas heating furnace
This contraption of course gave us heat into our homes and it was invented by a woman called Alice Parker in 1919. She basically designed the entire system from start to finish and you will of course know the difference it made to our homes right from the outset.
4.The bra
How would women cope in the world today if it was not for their bra? It should not be a shock to learn that a woman invented it, but of course it has certainly evolved a bit from those earliest days. Instead, the original one was invented by Mary Phelps Jacob in 1914 and women have loved her ever since.
5.Monopoly
Everybody loves Monopoly and it has been around since 1904. It was invented by a woman called Elizabeth Magie and you can just imagine how many of them have now been sold over the last century.
6.Kevlar
This is the stuff in bullet proof vests and it was actually invented by a Polish chemist called Stephanie Kwolek. This has protected countless numbers of people and saved so many lives and all from a discovery in a chemistry lab.
7.Fire escape
You wonder how a fire escape could be invented, but it was and the patent belonged to a Anna Connolly in 1887. This just seems strange that it had to be invented, but it was and how many lives has it managed to save?

8.Disposable diapers
Just how useful are disposable diapers? Put it another way, how lost would you be without them? They were invented by a woman called Marion Donovan in the 40's and she actually used an old shower curtain with the prototype.
9.Chocolate chip cookies
Those rather tasty cookies were first created by a woman called Ruth Wakefield. She was actually a dietician and made them by accident in 1930 when she was baking and it all went wrong. Good job for the world that she made a mess of things.

10.Windshield wipers
The windshield wiper was invented by Mary Anderson at the turn of the 20th century. She had been in New York and saw people stopping every couple of minutes to clear snow off the windshield, so decided that there had to be a better option and wipers were born.
11.The dishwasher
The sexist among us will more than likely say that it is no surprise that a woman invented the dishwasher, but the most amazing part is that the patent was submitted in 1886. The woman behind it was called Josephine Cochrane and it is fair to say that she did indeed come up with something pretty useful.

12.The circular saw
Believe it or not, but this type of saw was invented in the 18th century by a woman called Tabitha Babbit. She lived in a Shaker community and now of course you see this saw all over the place with it playing an integral role in the construction industry.
