1.Now You See Me

Now You See Me certainly made movie magic happen at the box office this summer. The film, which revolves around four magicians, opened at No. 2 domestically getting $29,350,389 on its opening weekend from 2,925 theaters. It has gone on to earn $308,492,258 worldwide, thus making it the No. 15 highest-film of 2013. A sequel to the film has already been announced.




2.The Great Gatsby

The Roaring Twenties film, The Great Gatsby made quite an impact at the box office this year. The movie is an adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel by the same name. Although the film received mixed reviews, audience-goers loved it. Many thought Leonardo DiCaprio wouldn't be able to capture the true essence of 'Jay Gatsby,' but he nailed the role. In fact, the movie made 51.1 million during its opening weekend in the United States. The movie has a worldwide total of $331,019,377 million.



3.The Hangover Part III

Third time's a charm for the Hangover franchise. The film reunited stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Ken Jeong for yet another wild goose-chase filled with random occurrences. Many critics thought the film didn't live up to its predecessors, but fans still supported it anyway. It has made $112 million domestically, $351 million worldwide.





4.The Wolverine

The Wolverine has proven itself to be a successful superhero spin-off. The film is the 12th highest-earning film of 2013. Fans didn't know what to expect with this film, especially since Hugh Jackman had already done a Wolverine film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). Many fans and critics were pleasantly surprised with the action-packed film and it showed at the box office. Since hitting theaters, the film has made just over $359 million worldwide.



5.G.I. Joe Retaliation

Go Joe! Though the movie received mainly negative reviews, a film starring Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis, and Channing Tatum, was destined to win at the box office. G.I. Joe Retaliation earned $371,923,060 million worldwide, making it the 11th highest-grossing film of the year. Due to restrictions by the censor board, and the film's overall depiction of the country, G.I. Joe Retaliation was banned in Pakistan.





6.Pacific Rim

Pacific Rim is another film that became a surprising box office hit. The sci-fi monster movie isn't filled with a powerhouse cast, but it still managed to land in the No. 10 spot for highest-earning films of 2013. The movie has proven to be more of a hit overseas, as it has only made $100.5 million domestically, and $404.9 million worldwide.



7.Star Trek Into Darkness

Star Trek Into Darkness started out the gate slow, but the film is the ninth highest grossing film of 2013. The film earned $70.6 million during its opening weekend. Numerous weeks after its release, the film grossed $147 million overseas, beating the lifetime international earnings of its Star Trek (2009). Since its release to now, the film has earned $228,702,543 million in the USA and over $462 million worldwide. It is the highest-grossing film of the franchise.

8.OZ The Great and Powerful

To the surprise of many, Oz The Great And Powerful became a smash hit at the box office. The movie, which tells the story of how Oz came to be who he is, is the eighth highest-earning film of 2013. Even though it looked like they used a lot of money, the film had a budget of $215 million. Since hitting theaters, the film has earned $493.3 worldwide.



9.World War Z

After years of negotiations and setbacks, World War Z finally hit theaters in June 2013. The apocalyptic film is presently the seventh high-grossing film of 2013. As of September 2013, the film has earned a little more than $532 million worldwide. The film finished second to Monsters University during its opening with $66.41 million. Although the film wasn't in first place, it is the largest opening weekend for a film starring Brad Pitt.

10.The Croods

The animated pre-historic film, The Croods is one of the highest-grossing films of 2013. Nationwide, the flick has earned more than $585 million on a budget of $135 million. With those figures, the DreamWorks film claims the number six spot for the highest-grossing films of the year. The Croods 2 is expected to be released sometime in 2019. DreamWorks Animation also plans to develop an animated television series based on the film.



11.Man of Steel

The Superman reboot Man of Steel is the fifth highest-grossing film of 2013. With a production budget of $225 million, the film has already made that money back and then some. Worldwide, the film has made a total of $657, 769, 852, making it the highest-grossing Superman film to ever hit the big screen. In June 2013, it was announced that a sequel to Man of Steel with newly named Batman, Ben Affleck, would hit theaters on July 17, 2015.

12.Monsters University

Monsters University, the prequel to Monsters Inc., takes the spot for the fourth highest-grossing film for Pixar and for the year. Bill Crystal and John Goodman reprised their roles as 'Mike' and 'Sulley,' respectively in the 3D animated comedy. As of September 2013, the film has made a total of $715,437,017. It is the 60th highest-grossing film of all-time. Monsters University is Pixar's first-ever prequel film.



13.Fast and Furious 6

Fast & Furious 6 proves that with a good script and star-power, even a sixth installment can be successful. The summer flick is currently the third highest-grossing film of 2013. It is also Universal Studios' fourth highest-grossing film. Globally, the film has grossed a little over $787 million. Outside of the United States, Fast & Furious 6 is the highest-grossing film in the franchise. Fast & Furious 7 is currently in pre-production.



14.Despicable Me 2

Despicable Me 2 is the highest-earning animated film of 2013. The fun-loving film is also the second highest-grossing film of the year. With a budget of $76 million, the film is hailed as the most profitable flick in Universal Studios' 100 years of existence. The film is filled with an all-star cast. The voices of Steve Carell, Benjamin Bratt, Kristen Wiig, and Russell Brand can all be heard as characters in the movie.



15.Iron Man 3

As it stands, Iron Man 3 is the top-grossing film of 2013. The film, which stars Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow, opened May 2013 in the US. The movie made $174.1 million opening weekend. As of September 2, 2013, Iron Man 3 has earned $408,883,156 in the USA, and $805,700,000 in other countries, for a worldwide total of $1,214,583,156. Globally, the superhero film is the fifth-highest-grossing film.
