1.Nagoya

Nagoya train station is one of the biggest when it comes to the amount of land it covers, but it is a bit of a trick because most of this floor space is due to it having a hotel on top of it as well as a number of offices resulting in a building that is 59 stories high. Some would argue that this means it is not one of the biggest train stations in the world, but the point being made is that it depends on how you determine size.




2.Jakarta Kota

This station really is not much to look at, but it is one of the biggest stations in the world, so looks really can be deceptive. The station is actually a tourist attraction and its size is not due to the number of platforms, but because it contains a mosque, shops, and it is seen as being the biggest train station in South East Asia.



3.Berlin Hauptbahnhof

In what appears to be a recurring theme, this train station in Berlin serves more than 300,000 people per day and it has 14 platforms. Inside the station you will have shopping that covers more than 44,000 square meters with a range of shops covering all tastes while you wait on your train. This station was only built in 2006, so it may not have the heritage of other stations, but it is certainly one of the best.





4.Victoria Terminus

The Victoria Terminus, or to give it the new name Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus is the biggest train station in India. This station in Mumbai has to be one of the most stunning buildings in the city and you would not expect it to be a train station when you look at it. The building itself is a world heritage site and it has 18 platforms, which does seem to be a small amount for this particular station.



5.Leipzig Hauptbahnhof

This train station in Leipzig is the biggest in Europe when it comes to actual floor space and it serves on average 120,000 people per day. This station has 24 platforms and it also has a large number of shops as well and considering it was largely destroyed in WW2 it is still a fantastic looking station and one of the best in existence.





6.Zurich Hauptbahnhof

This station in Zurich is actually very nice, but it is also extremely busy as it deals with over 2,900 trains every single day. It also has to serve almost half a million people each day, so you can understand why it needs 26 platforms as well as a huge shopping mall. The fact it is Swiss means it will always run like clockwork, so do not expect anything to be late as it will just not happen.



7.Roma Termini

This train station in Rome is very impressive. It may only have 29 platforms, but it does link to so many of the major cities in Europe making it a real hub of travel across the continent. This train station deals with a huge number of people each day and the slightly surprising thing is that it does seem to work very well indeed with trains on time and it is generally organized.

8.Munich Hauptbahnhof

With 450,000 people passing through its doors every single day it is one of the busiest train stations in the whole of Europe. This station has 32 platforms along with links to the underground and it does make it one of the biggest train stations anywhere in the world. You also know that with it being German everything is going to work just fine.



9.Shinjuku

Shinjuku station in Japan is the biggest in Asia although you would expect the Chinese to try to beat that at some point further down the line. This station apparently services more than 3 million people every single day, so it has to be massive in order to cope with these crowds. This station has 36 platforms, but 200 exits and it really is on such a huge scale.

10.Gare du Nord

This train station in Paris is seriously big and indeed it is the biggest in Europe if you use platforms as your scale. They are talking about actually expanding it even further so instead of 44 platforms it will then have 77 due mainly to the fact that so many trains from all over Europe can make their way here resulting in a huge number of people passing through every single day.



11.Amsterdam Centraal

This station deals with 250,000 people a day and it is actually built on three man made islands, so it is actually pretty unique in that way alone. The building itself is pretty impressive and the fact that that have build islands and everything for it has helped make it one of the biggest train stations in the world.

12.Grand central

It may come as no surprise to find out that Grand Central station in New York is one of the largest train stations in the world and indeed when it comes to platforms there are none bigger. This train station has 44 platforms and more than 21 million people pass through its doors every single year, which is a huge number for just a train station.
