Taklamakan Desert - Central Asia

It is considered the largest sandy desert in the world and the 15th largest non-polar desert. The Taklamakan spans 100,00 square miles in the Tarim Basin, with two sections of the Silk Road crossing it only at its northern and southern tips. Oddly enough, this desert experienced eleven consecutive days of snow in 2008.
