15 Celebrities Who Were Denied Visa From Other Countries

Every nation reserves the right to keep a foreign national from entering into its country. The visa issuing authorities usually refuse a visa application if they find something wrong with the applicant. Many countries deny visa to people who are criminals or have a shady past. Celebrities although popular and famous can also be refused a visa. Here are fifteen celebrities who were denied visa in a country they were trying to visit. 

1.The Beatles

Visa rejections don't only happen to sleazy celebrities with dark histories of abuse and violence. The clean cut Beatles were, at the height of their fame, once banned in the Philippines for declining at a breakfast invitation from the first lady.

2.Snoop Dogg

Rapper Snoop Dogg may hold the record for the most versatile visa denials, having been banned in the UK, the Netherlands, Norway and Australia. Additionally, he's been been banned for both rug convictions and gun possession. Australian immigration minister declared that Snoop "Doesn't seem to be the sort of bloke we want in this country."

3.Martha Stewart

Everybody's favorite domestic goddess Martha Stewart discovered in 2008 that the Brits weren't so fond of her domestic skills. The United Kingdom's border agency denied her a visa because of a conviction four years earlier related to her share dealings.

4.Russell Brand

Wild-eyed comedian and actor Russell Brand didn't make it into the nation of Canada in 2011 owing to previous drug offenses, letting down roughly 5000 fans. It was a rough year for Brand who had previously been denied a visa to Japan for the same reason.

5.Terry Jones

Controversial US pastor Terry Jones was denied entry into Canada in 2012. It must have had something to do with the public burning of the Quran that sparked deadly protests in Afghanistan in 2011. Either that or they were concerned about what he was smuggling in his mustache.

6.Miley Cyrus

The former Hannah Montana star has become something of a controversy magnet of late. So it makes a strange kind of sense that she'd find the weirdest way possible to be denied entry into a nation. Apparently Chinese officials didn't care for the gesture she made in this photo.

7.Bjork

Bjork's reasons for being denied a visa to China had nothing to do with the law and everything to do with her politics, more specifically, her highly public and outspoken support of Tibet. Richard Gere, filmmaker Martin Scorsese and actor Harrison Ford were also denied entry for this reason.

8.The Rolling Stones

The Stones were denied entry to the nation of Japan for many years due to prior rug convictions. Japan however, has recently forgiven the band and reversed their decision, perhaps figuring the band is now simply too old to cause any trouble.

9.Paris Hilton

The young socialite and reality star TV had her plans to visit Japan hit a snag when she was turned away from Tokyo's Narita airport. The reason? Hilton had pled guilty to cocaine possession in Las Vegas just the day before. It must have slipped her mind.

10.Rihanna

Who could possibly find fault with the lovely and talented pop singer Rihanna? The nation of Canada, that's who. When border officials found her -- or, more specifically, a passenger on her tour bus -- in possession of marijuana, they denied her entry into the country.

11.Lady Gaga

Pop singer Lady Gaga is no stranger to controversy. In fact, she and controversy have been on intimate terms for years. So it should come as no shock that she would manage to get banned from Indonesia without breaking the law. The country denied her entry because her music is considered suggestive and immoral.

12.Chris Brown

R&B star and domestic abuser Chris Brown had to postpone his European tour when denied a work visa in the UK. The reason, according to the authorities, is that Brown was "guilty of a serious criminal offense," referring to his 2010 assault on his onetime significant other Rihanna.

13.Duane "Dog" Chapman

The reality TV show star better known as Dog The Bounty Hunter was denied a visa to The United Kingdom, not for having an embarrassing hairdo, but for a murder conviction dating back to the late 1970s. HIs wife Beth called the denial "insulting."

14.Akon

Like Lady Gaga, R&B star Akron never broke the law . In his case all that was needed to be denied a visa was that he upset the Buddhist population of Sri Lanka with a music video of scantily clad women dancing around a statue of The Buddha.

15.Amy Winehouse

The British singer who had died in 2011 was denied an American visa many times. The American authorities banned Amy Winehouse from entering the United States. The main reason for the visa denial is her drug addiction. Amy was arrested a few times in the United Kingdom for drug possession. The incredibly talented singer had died in 2011 because of alcohol poisoning.
