1.Tom Hanks as Andrew Beckett in Philadelphia

Tom Hanks was one of the first actors to dramatically change their appearance for a role. His portrayal as AIDS-stricken Andrew Beckett in the movie, Philadelphia, left him with his first Oscar. Hanks recently revealed that his weight fluctuation for movie roles might have been a factor in his diabetes diagnosis.




2.Christian Bale as Trevor Reznik in The Machinist

Christian Bale is known for losing and gaining weight for films. The actor dropped down to 124 pounds, by crash-dieting, in order to portray insomniac Trevor Reznik in the 2004 film, The Machinist. He then gained the weight back to play the Dark Knight in the 2005 film, Batman Begins.



3.Charlize Theron as Aileen Wuornosin Monster

Charlize Theron is one of the most gorgeous women in the world. Her drastic transformation into Aileen Wuornos for the movie Monster made her the female version of Beauty and the Beast. The movie focuses on Wuornos who went from being a Daytona Beach prostitute to vicious a serial killer.





4.Johnny Depp as Edward Scissorhands

Only Johnny Depp could make some rusty scissors look sexy. The actor took on the titular role in the 1990 film, Edward Scissorhands. The character was socially awkward, but still managed to have women swoon after him. Even though their appearances differ, Edward and Depp seem to have the same personality.



5.Matthew McConaughey as Ron Woodroof in Dallas Buyers Club

Matthew McConaughey will do anything for the sake of his career. The actor's transformation into Ron Woodroof nabbed him his first Oscar win. The heartthrob dropped an insane amount of weight to play the HIV positive crusader in the 2013 film, The Dallas Buyers Club. Once he finished filming, he celebrated by eating a juicy burger.





6.Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice

Michael Keaton has played the caped crusader and the disgustingly awful Beetlejuice. Although Beetlejuice wasn't as evil as some movie villains, his face is enough to make you want to run away in fear. His was supposed to appear as though he was undead, but looked like a hobo instead. As of 2014, a Beetlejuice 2 is currently in the works.



7.Robin Williams as Mrs. Doubtfire

Robin Williams did not look like a lady when he played Mrs. Doubtfire, in 1994 but it was a hilarious attempt. He might have fooled the characters in the film, but even with all of those prosthetics he had on, his true persona could not be denied. Williams' Mrs. Doubtfire would mesh perfectly with the cast of Downton Abbey.

8.Tom Cruise as Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder

Tom Cruise is not a comedic actor, but he certainly made fans all over the world laugh while watching Tropic Thunder. On top of his over-the-top appearance, Cruise's character (Les Grossman) stole the show when he began dancing like his life depended on it at the end of the movie.



9.Jim Carrey as The Grinch

Jim Carrey must love green, especially since he's played two characters whose entire body was covered in the color. Carrey took on the daunting task of playing the Grinch in the 2000 live-action version of How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Aside from his voice, Carrey was unrecognizable in the role.

10.Eddie Murphy - Professor Klump

Eddie Murphy took on not one or two characters in 1996 The Nutty Professor remake. He played seven different roles, including the svelte Buddy Love. The other six characters in the film were morbidly obese and didn't know how to control their bodily functions. The only thing these plump characters had in common with Murphy is the fact that they were hilarious.



11.Mike Myers - Austin Powers, Dr. Evil and Fat Bastard

Mike Myers showed his many sides in the movie Austin Powers. He pulled triple duty when he took on the roles of Dr. Evil, Fat Bastard and of course, Austin Powers. Much like Tom Hanks in Castaway, Myers spent most of his time talking to himself in the Austin Powers films.

12.Shawn & Marlon Wayans in White Chicks

Shawn and Marlon Wayans took on their most memorable roles in the movie White Chicks. Not only did they change their race, but they changed their gender as well. They did look like two female ghosts, but the movie was a hit at the box office. While moviegoers laughed in theaters, these two laughed all the way to the bank.
