1.Middlemist Red
This is hailed as one of the rarest plants in the world as there are only two of them around.
One in New Zealand and one in a green house in the United Kingdom. This one pictured here only flowered recently and was snapped for all to see.
2.Franklin Tree
This beautiful flower should have been extinct centuries ago. Found in certain parts of the USA the only reason this flower is still around is because of the Batram family who helped keep it alive. Starting bloom in soft white the flower turns to a dark red in autumn.
3.Parrots Beak
This plant is so rare it can only be pollinated by a bird that has become extinct. Found in the Canary Islands there are some left although it was rumored that it had in fact become extinct in 1884. The flower look uncannily like a Parrots Beak hence the name.
4.Chocolate Cosmos
This flower has in fact been extinct for over a 100 years, but there is a clone living in protection in Mexico. The flower emits the sweetest smell ever known during summer months much like its name suggests.
5.The Ghost Orchid
This plant is so rare it can only be found in Cuba and certain parts of Florida. It is primarily parasitic and relies on the giant sphinx moth to pollinate it. It appears to float when in bloom giving it the ghostly appearance it is famous for.
6.Youtan Poluo
This sweet smelling tiny plant is so rare only a few sightings have been reported. Often in strange areas too like dirt water pipes and under a washing machine. It really has no formal name but smells so sweet and so strong that it is fascinating. It is said that these tiny flowers only bloom once every 3000 years. So this photo is a rarity indeed.
7.Attenborough's Pitcher Plant (Nepenthes Attenboroughii)
Named after British journalist Sir David Attenborough this plant is also only found in the Philippines. It can grow up to nearly 2 meters in length and eats mostly flesh. It catches it pray and digests it in the bulbous part of the flower.

8.Kadupul Flower (Epiphyllum Oxypetalum)
This beautiful flower is not only on the brink of extinction but has strange and fascinating blooming habits. Its beauty is undeniable with its soft white and elegant petals. The flower only blooms in the dead of night so is rarely seen. Then whither and folds up by morning. Found only in Sri Lanka one can only hope this flower does not become extinct.
9.Corpse Flower (Rafflesia arnoldii)
Both rare and interesting this flower is aptly named. Since once in full bloom smells much like that of a rotting corpse. The reason you may ask is because this smell attracts beetles and insects to the plant which is of course is good for the ecological cycle. Mainly a parasitic plant it has no body or roots and lives off another plant for survival.

10.Yellow and Purple Lady Slippers (Cypripedium Calceolus)
This charming and quaintly named flower is so rare it only grows in one part of the United Kingdom. A golf course of all places. So as not to disturb them the actual golf course has never been named and is a closely guarded secret. They also bloom in bright yellow and are exquisite to look at. Part of the Orchid family this delicate flower has been protected for over 100 years.
11.Campion (Silene Tomentosa)
This pale and fragile beauty was considered extinct as none had been spotted for many years. Until one day a hiker reporter finding one on a wilderness path in Gibraltar. The flower's fate has since been altered and although rare is no longer considered extinct.

12.The Beautiful Jade Vine (Strongylodon Macrobotrys)
Found mainly in the Philippines this rare and beautiful vine can grow up to two meters tall. Its beauty is mostly in the coloring which can be mint green or jade blue and you have to admit that this does look rather nice.
