A picture like the one above should be enough of a deterrent for any smoker. It is a picture of a healthy lung and a lung damaged by smoke inhalation. Post a picture like this anywhere and everywhere to remind yourself just what you are doing to your lungs when you smoke.
4.Place Money You're Saving In Jar
Place the amount of money you would spend on a pack of cigarettes, or a carton, each day, into a jar. If you smoke two packs per day, put that amount in the jar. After a week you will see how much money you were spending on cigarettes and that you can use that money on something much more beneficial.
5.Take 1 Milliliter Oat Extract Per Day
Avena Sativa, commonly known as oat extract, has been proven to decrease the number of cigarettes a smoker smokes. One milliliters four times per day, should do the trick. You can find oat extract at your local health food store. Keep it on hand to use throughout your entire day.
6.Suck On Cinnamon Flavored Toothpick
Part of the habit of smoking is the oral fixation. Try a cinnamon toothpick. Stick it in your mouth when a cigarette craving hits. The cinnamon will curb the craving, and the act of sucking on the toothpick or letting it hang out of your mouth will satisfy your oral need.
7.Switch To Herbal Tea At Times You Would Smoke
Herbal tea is a great deterrent to smoking. Drinking herbal tea when you would normally have a cigarette, like after you eat, is a great way to help curb the habit. The herbal tea will soothe and calm you, similar to the effect you get from a cigarette, but in a much more healthy way.

8.Find Things To Do When Cravings Hit
When cravings hit and you would normally reach for a cigarette, do something else instead. Run, walk, hike, hit some golf balls, knit, sew, write. Do anything that you like and do that or something else every time you have the urge to smoke, until you replace that habit with something more healthy.
9.Stop Buying Cartons
One of the first things you should do is to stop buying cartons of cigarettes. If you are trying to quit smoking, make it harder for yourself to have access to cigarettes. Your mind will force you to smoke less to conserve the cigarettes you have in your pack, slowing down how many you smoke per day.

The worst thing you can do, if you want to quit smoking, is be around other smokers. It's like putting a mouse in a cheese factory, it will be very hard to resist. Try to stay away from areas where smoking is going on, at least when you first start you quest for becoming a non-smoker.

Quitting smoking during a stressful time in your life may set you up for failure. Since more smokers reach for a cigarette when they're stressed it will be doubly hard for you to quit the habit. Instead wait for things to settle down and for a time when life is more stable.
