No one would ever think that a website that allows you to type 140 characters at a time would become so popular, but it has. Twitter was founded by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone and Noah Glass in July 2006. Twitter is one of the 10 most visited websites in the world, and has over 200 million active users. The website allows users to publicly (or privately) post tweets, links and photos through SMS, mobile app or desktop interface. Non-registered users can visit and read the website, but they cannot post. Celebrities and translators are distinguished by a verified checkmark. Today, Twitter has more than 250,000,000 unique monthly visitors.
