Orkut is a social networking website that is owned and operated by Google. Orkut officially launched on January 24, 2004. With over 33 million active users, Orkut is designed to connect users with new and old friends. It also helps users maintain existing relationships and cultivate the ones that are just beginning. The website is named after creator and Google employee Orkut Buyukk�kten. Though relatively popular in the USA, Orkut is one of the most visited websites in India and Brazil.

Ning is a payable outlet that allows people to create custom social networks. Ning gives its users the ability to create a customizable community website filled with videos, photos, blogs and forums. Users can assimilate their Facebook, Twitter and Google accounts with their Ning community website. Today, there are over 90,000 social websites running on theNing Platform. Currently, Ning offers three plans to its customers: Mini, Plus and Pro. Ning has over 60 million monthly unique visitors worldwide. The website launched in October 2005.
3.Meetup
Meetup brings people closer together. This social networking website was designed to facilitate in-person meet-ups all over the world. Users can create groups based on their likes and ask others from around the globe to join and discuss the topics they love to chat about. Meetup launched in June 2002; it has more than 7 million unique monthly visitors. Meetup is one of the few social networking sites that charge a fee. The company charges Organizer Dues to administrators of groups, currently at $12 to $19 per month.

Foursquare is a location-based mobile social networking website that allows users to check-in at venues. The website is said to have more than 3-million check-ins per day. So far, Foursquare is only available in 12 languages. The website's overall concept is to allow users to interact with their environment no matter where they are.Foursquarewas developed in 2009 by Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai.

CafeMom is the perfect social networking website for women to share information and give advice about their motherhood experiences. Though the site is primarily designated for mothers and mothers-to-be, it was founded by two men - Andrew Shue and Michael Sanchez. CafeMom launched in 2006. The website gets more than $12 million unique visitors per month.

Tumblr is a mix of a social networking website and a microblogging platform. Users can make friends, share links & photos and blog about anything under the sun. Every user has a dashboard for both blogging and for viewing and sharing (re-blogging)information. The website was founded in 2007 by David Karp. In June 2013, Tumblr was acquired by Yahoo! Inc. for $1 billion. As of October 1, 2013, Tumblr is home to over 139.4 million blogs.
7.Instagram
Instagram was founded by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. It officially launched in October 2010 and has been building momentum ever since. Instagram is a social networking site that allows users to share photos and videos across various other platforms. Users can tag friends, use trending hashtags and filter their files before posting them. In 2012, Facebook acquired Instagram for $1 billion in both cash and stock.

Due to the amount of Gmail users who have linked their profile to the site; it is hailed as the second-largest social networking site in the world. Before this year, Twitter held the title of being the second-largest social networking site. As of May 2013, Google+ is said to have a total of 500 million registered users. The site has approximately 235 million active users a month. Google+ was founded in 2011.

No one would ever think that a website that allows you to type 140 characters at a time would become so popular, but it has. Twitter was founded by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone and Noah Glass in July 2006. Twitter is one of the 10 most visited websites in the world, and has over 200 million active users. The website allows users to publicly (or privately) post tweets, links and photos through SMS, mobile app or desktop interface. Non-registered users can visit and read the website, but they cannot post. Celebrities and translators are distinguished by a verified checkmark. Today, Twitter has more than 250,000,000 unique monthly visitors.

MySpace was once the most popular social networking website in the world. Since then, its popularity has steadily declined. The website was founded in 2003 by Chris DeWolfe and Tom Anderson. In June 2013, Specific Media Group and Justin Timberlake mutually purchased the company for approximately $35 million. MySpace helped many artists and personalities put themselves on the map. It was one of the best places to make friends, network, and win free stuff, get information, date and even discuss hot topics on its forums. In 2008, Facebook surpassed MySpace in the number of unique worldwide visitors.

LinkedIn is one of the most popular networking sites in the world. It was founded in December 2002 and officially launched on May 5, 2003. It is the go-to site for job seekers and employers. It's also a great website to connect and re-connect with alumni and classmates.LinkedIn has 65.6 million monthly unique U.S. visitors and 178.4 million worldwide.The website is currently available in 20 languages.
