How To Get Rid Of Muffin Tops

1.Eat Lean Protein

Lean protein is one of the best things you can do for your body to rid yourself of fat, and to tone up. Protein helps the body retain muscle, and build muscle, which in turn keeps your metabolism fired up. If you've ever seen people who don't eat enough protein, you will notice their lack of shape to their bodies from lack of muscle.

2.Avoid High Glycemic Carbohydrates

High glycemic carbohydrates are the biggest culprit of fat storage problems. To give you a reference point, sugar is 100 on the glycemic scale. That means it enters your blood stream the fastest, causing a rush of insulin, which then causes your body to store fat. White bread, bagels, potatoes, pasta and more, are all 50 or more on the index. What this means is that some of these items put just as much sugar into your blood as a pure sugar, or a candy bar.

3.Drink Lemon Water

Lemon water is an all natural way to detox your body, hydrate your skin, and add vitamin C to your regimen. When drank first thing in the morning, it breaks up fats in the body. A refreshing way to stay healthy during cold season, while fighting belly fat, and preventing it from forming.


Yoga is an amazing way to tone the body over all. The stretches, such as side triangle, depicted here, stretches the sides and whittles away fat at the same time. Breathing techniques and twisting motions, rid the body of toxins that cause fat buildup, while relieving stress, the biggest culprit of causing cortisol to form in the body, which in turn causes belly fat.

5.Strengthen Core

A strong core is a flat and toned core. Planks are the best overall core strengthener out there. Done either on the elbows, or with arms extended and palms on the floor, you tighten your abs and keep your body in a straight line for a minute or for however long you can, not allowing your butt to sink toward the mat.

6.Side Crunch

Side crunches are tried and true method of tightening your obliques and whittling away muffin tops. It starts out just like a regular crunch where your back is flat on the floor, knees bent and feet flat on the floor, but for this version you lift one leg over the other. With hands behind the head, you lift your body and twist toward the knee of the opposite raised leg. Do up to 25 on one side and then switch.

7.Side Bends

Side bends over a yoga ball is a great way to elongate the torso and stretch the sides. As you extend yourself as far over the ball as you can, stacking your legs and keeping your feet on the floor, balance yourself on your lower arm. Lift your body up to the side, using your obliques, an balance on the ball on your lower hip. Repeat.


8.Side Twists

Side twists with a medicine ball are a great waist whittler. Sitting on the floor with knees bent slightly and your heels on the floor, take a medicine ball and hold it in front of you, close to your body and between your belly button and your breasts. Move the ball to the right, spinning your upper torso but keeping your hips facing forward. Switch the ball all the way to the other side. Repeat as many times as you can.

9.Side Plank

The side plank is a muffin top destroyer. Performed by balancing yourself on one arm with both legs extended and either piled onto each other or toggled. With your other arms up, you want to make sure your shoulder is over the wrist of your balancing hand. Pull your hips up to the ceiling, and you should feel your side clench and work, as you hold it for a minute, if you can.


10.Get Off Your Butt

One of the best things you can do for yourself is to get off your butt and get into an exercise routine. Doing cardio exercise where your heart is elevated for thirty to 50 minutes per day will burn fat, reducing the muffin top on your sides. Running, biking, aerobic classes, kick boxing, and more are a fun way to reshape your body and tone up.

11.Pull Up Your Pants

A first step in getting rid of the unsightly muffin top is to pull up your pants. With the low waisted jeans on the market, everybody thinks they have to have them, but some body shapes are just not made for it. A slightly higher waistline would not cut into your sides, causing spill over. This even happens on skinny women if their pants are too low and too tight.


12.The Muffin Top

As the saying goes, "you are what you eat," and so it stands to reason that if you eat a muffin top, you get a muffin top. Stay away from sugary baked good, laden with sugar. It's a sure way to pack on the pounds and before you know it you'll won't love those handles hanging out over your jeans.
