Yogurt is great for helping to lose weight. Packed with protein and low in fat, plain yogurt helps build strong bones and solid muscle. It also helps the body maintain muscle while filling your belly. Choose a fat free plain yogurt, then add berries and almonds for a triple whammy great breakfast.



Whey protein is a great source of protein to help build muscle and retain muscle. Found in milk, you can get it in powder form to make in smoothies. You can buy whey protein in any health food store and add to smoothies or sprinkle on yogurt or cereal for a protein boost any time.

3.Leafy Green Vegetables

Green leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale, collard greens, and mustard greens help fight free radicals in the body. Filled with antioxidants, they prevent cell damage, fighting against cancer and other diseases, while providing iron for better muscle recovery after workouts. Eat them as you would a salad, steam them for a side dish, crisp them in the oven for a snack, or add them to a smoothie.


4.Green Tea

Green tea is great for burning fat and also provides the antioxidants that you need to protect your body from free radical cell damage. Drinking two glasses of green per day is beneficial to your body in so many ways, but does boost your metabolism to burn fat more effectively.

5.Fatty Fish

Salmon, tuna and mackerel are the best fatty fish to eat to burn fat. These types of fish trigger fullness, making you eat less of other foods, and cutting down on calories. Fish is also high in protein and alpha omega-3 fatty acids. Fish is brain food and great for the body.


6.Lean Meats

Lean meats are a great source of protein that builds and maintains muscle. Keep red meats down to one per week or twice a month, but turkey and chicken are great choices to get the protein you need throughout the day. It also strengthens your immune system and gives you overall strength.


Almonds contain protein and help to reduce cravings. The oleic oil found in the almonds cut hunger, and they are packed with Vitamin E, fiber and monosaturated fat, which is the good fat. They are low in calories and make for a great snack, just don't go overboard. A handful a day is great.

Beans and legumes contain protein which builds muscles which burns fat. I know that sounds like words to the "House That Jack Built," but it's true. A body with more muscle mass burns more fat at rest than someone with less muscle. Protein is essential to building muscle and maintaining muscle.

9.Chili Peppers

Chili peppers spike metabolism with capsaicin, which also stimulates endorphins in your brain. Capsaicin uses thermogenesis to burn fat in the body. Studies have shown that there is a 25% increase in metabolism from eating chili peppers that lasts for up to three hours after eating. So add a little chili pepper to your next meal.



Grapefruit is great for lowering insulin and regulating blood sugar, which is one of the main reasons people gain weight. High blood sugar results in the release of insulin which causes the body to store fat. The fleshy membranes are where the metabolism boosting benefits are. Great for breakfast or an afternoon snack.

Peanut butter builds muscle and burns fat by boosting testosterone. Don't worry women, you won't develop facial hair or a deep voice. It's a great fat burning food for both men and women, satiates, gives you your sweet fix and who doesn't love peanut butter and bananas, but skip the fluffernutter.



Berries are one of the best fat burning foods. They prevent cravings and satiate you, which means you won't keep eating. They are also high in antioxidants preventing cell damage due to free radicals in the body. Great for the skin and the waistline, you can't go wrong with blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and strawberries.
